Welcome to the EMPYRO project website!

The EMPYRO project - in full: Polygeneration through pyrolysis: Simultaneous production of oil, process steam, electricity and organic acids - started in December 2009 and will run until November 2013. The main aim of the project is to build and demonstrate a 25 MWth polygeneration pyrolysis plant to produce electricity, process steam and fuel oil from woody biomass. The produced fuel oil can be used on-site, sold to a regional customer or exported. If you are interested in purchasing Pyrolysis oil from the plant to be constructed, please contact BTG Bioliquids BV at office@btg-btl.com. The project also aims at developing and demonstrating the recovery of acetic acid from the aqueous organic acid solution that is produced as part of the pyrolysis oil production process.

EMPYRO flyer
In November, the project consortium prepared a project flyer focusing on the pyrolysis plant and the oil applications. Click here to download the flyer (in Dutch and English).

The EMPYRO project is coordinated by BTG Biomass Technology Group B.V. (the Netherlands). It will be carried out by a consortium of nine complementary partners, including technology providers, developers and manufacturers, a biomass supplier, an industrial end-user and a CFD modeling expert. Coordination tasks are split between technical issues and administrative issues.

 Administrative coordination:
